About the Course
Have
you ever wanted to build your guitar?
Hancock Guitars are now offering guitar making courses at their purpose-built workshop on Queensland's Gold Coast. During a course participants gain knowledge of all the techniques of building an acoustic guitar while constructing their own instrument.
We
personally conduct the course, providing instruction, advice and hands-on
demonstration. We teach participants both the theory and practical
techniques of building an acoustic guitar.
One
key advantage of our course is that we allow a maximum of 6 students per
course, this ensures a large amount of hands on instruction resulting in
the very high-quality finished instruments for all students.
There
are no prerequisites for participants.
Many of past our students have gone on to pursue luthiery as a hobby or profession.

During
this intensive two-week workshop we
cover all aspects of acoustic guitar construction.
Our goal is to provide a comprehensive grounding in luthiery to
participants and demystify certain techniques which normally take years to
understand. The course covers the following curriculum - o Top and back tuning o Side bending o Top and back joining o Rosette inlay o Fretboard inlay o Fretting o Top and back bracing o Full body assembly o Neck shaping o Neck setting o Purfling and binding o Finishing o Nut & saddle o Setup |
Over two long weekends participants assemble, wire and set up an electric guitar or bass. Two key aspects that we focus on are electronics and setup, the workshop prepares participants to not only go on to build more guitars but also to set up and maintain their instruments. The course covers the following curriculum - o Neck attachment and angling o Fret leveling & dressing o Bridge placement and attachment o Pickup installation o Wiring o Schematic diagrams o Soldering o Shielding o Pickguard attachment o Nut fabrication o Truss rod adjustment o Action adjustment o Intonation adjustment o Pickup balancing |
